Are We There Yet?

With my summer vacation (finally!) on the horizon, I can't help but have resort wear on the brain. I think the things you wear on vacation should be your absolute favorites - items you can't wear in your normal day-to-day life, the things you long to wear all year round. They should transform and transport. For me, that always means an exotic print, a new silhouette, and as many tassels as possible.

I've rounded up a few of my current favorites that will get those summer vibes flowing.

With the Tribe

As you may or may not know by now, I have an obsession with anything exotic and handmade in feeling. As a matter of fact I have an entire rack of it in my bedroom (!). This translates to lots of embroidery, block printing, hand-loomed fabrics, and tassels, pom poms, etc. I found this bucket bag on Nordstrom Rack and it is all of my bohemian dreams in one bag. Tassels? Check. More tassels? Check! South American loomed fabric? Check!

I love the graphic black and white pattern- it will go with more than your typical summer bag. I'll be wearing mine with a floaty white dress, gladiators, and this hat.

Amsterdam-based Maison Scotch has the cool-girl thing down pat. Drop crotch jeans? Check. Vintage graphic tees? Check. And the perfect jumpsuit? Check!

TJMaxx just recently started carrying their usually expensive line. My favorite piece I've seen is this batik printed jumpsuit. I love that it has coverage (long sleeves, long pants) so you could actually get away with wearing it when (and if) the temp hits 60.

Even better is that TJMaxx is offering free shipping for April Fool's Day! No joke!

I Love a Good Knock-off

By far my favorite Spring 2015 runway show was Valentino's delicate, beautiful, and etheral take on hippie chic. There was leather, embroidery, lace, and dreamy chiffon gowns. But what struck me the most was a series of baroque-meets-boho prints. In bright colors and mixed patterns, they are the ultimate outfit makers. Unfortunately, one of his creations will cost you over $7,000.

Enter this fabulous knock-off from H&M. The colors are gorgeous and the silhouette will work for just about anyone. But the best part is the price- only a fraction of the real deal at $69.90.

Act fast- I smell a sell-out!

Feelin' Groovy

For yet another season, the influences of the 70's have a stranglehold on the runways. The girls at Zimmerman, Burberry Prorsum, Ulla Johnson, Etro all had that easy, rock & roll glam-hippie vibe. Fringe, crochet lace, Indian-inspired prints, and luxe color combos will be important. But why wait until next season? My 70's inspired picks below get the look with paisley prints, lace-up sandals, fringe, and artisan jewelry. Keep from looking like a Woodstock reject by making sure there's a glam element to your look- whether it's gold hardware on your bag or a high heel.

Rain, rain...

I can't tell you how close I've come to buying these amazing rain boots from Loeffler Randall. I know, I know, $195 (!!!) for rain boots?! I wouldn't even spend that much on every day boots. But man, aren't they good? The thought of pulling on protective footwear that you're actually excited to wear and actually fit in with the rest of your wardrobe really appeals to me. With spring on the way (and probably more winter weather ahead of us) it's time for me to get over the fantasy boots and get real. And really, the below options from Tjmaxx and 6pm are pretty cool as far as rain boots go.

Daily Deal featuring Jules Smith

As much as I love statement jewelry (seen here) lately I've been into layering more delicate pieces. Tiny studs, charm necklaces, and stacked rings have been on repeat. Jewelry line Jules Smith, designed by Gina Negrelli-Smith, satisfies all of my delicate cravings. Sold at Shopbop, Neiman Marcus, and Barneys, the line is inspired by my favorite fashion decades- the 60's and 70's.

Tjmaxx has been stocking up on some of my favorites with discounts as deep as 80% off of retail. Treat yourself!

Once Upon a Time ...

I was obsessed with anything Abercrombie. In the 90's, they were heavily inspired by vintage American workwear and every piece had its own special detail. In a way they remind me of what Ralph Lauren's Denim & Supply line is doing today. The 2000's were not kind to Abercrombie as they took on a glittery Britney-era persona that was anything but cool. Today they're exploring their roots with a cool girl twist. Back are the vintage washes and super soft fabrics. Back is the timeless menswear inspired outerwear. Yes, a lot of it is young (hello crop tops), but there are definitely items that fit in with my adult life. And their sales? Killer.

My favorites have to be their knitwear, sweatshirts, and graphic tees; just like the old days.

Daily Deal feat. Move by Alternative Apparel

I don't do yoga, but Alternative Apparel's Move collection makes me want to. The L.A. based company started out doing basic t-shirts and sweatshirts in soft organic cotton. They have since evolved into fashionable ready-to-wear knit and wovens in their signature vintage inspired fabrications. A few years ago they launched "Move," a collection of comfortable, easy to move in pieces that look just as great at the yoga studio as they do at Trader Joe's.

I don't think this collection is as performance driven as I would need it to be to actually work out in, but I would love to add these pieces to my errand running wardrobe, especially come spring time.

As much as I'm loving stocking up my winter wardrobe during this unusually good clearance season, I can't help looking ahead to spring and summer. The boho girl in me is missing my paisley prints, airy blouses, and caftans. Though it's still early for all that, there's probably nothing more transitional than a big beautiful scarf that you can wear at the office now and as a sarong on the beach in a few months. Celebrity favorite Theodora & Callum  has been delivering jet-set ready, 70's inspired scarves and ready-to-wear since the early 2000's. Inspired by their travels in Africa, Morocco, and beyond, their pieces are guaranteed to give you a Diane von Furstenburg moment.  Normally, a scarf will run $175 and up. But fortunately for us, MyHabit has an assortment of their accessories and clothing starting at 70% off.

Sale Alert!

Happy Saturday! Madewell is once again having an additional 30% off of their sale items. But this week, they have a lot of Fall/Winter 2014 denim marked down to $49.99 (or $34.99 after the additional 30%). It's so good you'll want to chuck your entire denim drawer and start over. And as always, shipping is free and fast (and so are returns on denim!).

Below are some of my basic and fashion faves.

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 9.21.19 AMAn edgy coated motorcycle jean with pintucked detail at the knee. Also available in a dreamy merlot.

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 9.19.53 AMA great basic dark wash with whiskering. The cropped length lets you show off a festive shoe or detailed bootie.

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 9.23.52 AMThe slouchy denim trend continues to be hot, but Madewell's Slim Boyjean is a happy medium. Not too skinny, not too slouchy, you'll want to wear these with everything.

A cleaner take on the moto jean, these have great zippered pockets and jodhpur-inspired seaming details.
